From Lawncrest Recreation Center to Top Recruit

For many athletes, the path to becoming a top recruit is shaped by pivotal moments in childhood. For one rising star, currently ranked as the 22nd prospect in the class of 2027 and a 4-star recruit by BTN Scouting, it all began at just four years old in an all-boys league at Lawncrest Recreation Center in Philadelphia. With a BTN rating of 96.2, she has rapidly risen in the rankings through a journey marked by grit, defense, and dedication.
“I started playing basketball at 4 in an all-boys league at Lawncrest Rec in Philadelphia,” she recalls. “In that league, I had to develop my defense because the boys weren’t really okay with passing to a girl. So, I knew if I wanted the ball, I had to play defense.” This experience instilled a love for defense in her game early on. “Ever since then, I’ve been flying around on defense. In 5th grade, my mom gave me the nickname ‘The Glove,’ and I’ve been living up to it ever since.”
By fifth grade, she decided that basketball would be more than just a hobby—it would be her future. “That’s when I realized what I could get out of basketball. Since then, I’ve been training with my dad, constantly improving, with the goal of making a career out of the game,” she says.
Developing The Game: Pilates, Pool Workouts, & Basketball Fundamentals
Training is a critical part of her journey, and over the years, she has identified specific workouts that have made a real impact. “Pilates and pool workouts have been big for me because they keep me loose and mobile,” she explains. “As far as basketball drills, I focus a lot on finishes and getting to my spot for mid-range pull-ups.” She tells BTN Scouting.
One of her standout skills is her quick handle and lightning-fast first step, something she attributes to early lessons in ball handling. “At an early age, I was taught the importance of dribbling both ways—I call it ‘two-way traffic.’ Once I could go both ways equally, I realized my first step was fast enough to get to the rim. I started setting my drives up with a hesitation hang dribble to freeze and read the defender.” Taylor says.
Playing Style: Fast, Controlled, and Defensive Mindset
Her playing style is a blend of speed, control, and defense. “I’d describe my style as fast but controlled, with a lot of pace,” Taylor tells BTN Scouting. “My strength is definitely on-ball defense and my instincts for jumping passing lanes. Offensively, I can blow by defenders and create opportunities for my teammates and myself. One area I’m focused on improving is my physicality and strength, but I know that will come with time.” Taylor says.
Nike EYBL: Learning To Compete At The Highest Level
Her experience playing on the Nike EYBL circuit has been instrumental in shaping her as a player. “Playing on the Nike circuit has given me the opportunity to compete against some of the best players, especially at the guard position. One major lesson I’ve learned is that I can’t take any plays off. The level of competition is so high, and I always have to compete at my best.” The physicality of the circuit has also been a crucial factor in her development. “It’s taught me how to play strong and handle physicality.” Taylor says.
Inspirations: Skylar Diggins & Hannah Hidalgo
When it comes to role models, two names stand out for her—one in the professional world and the other in the collegiate scene. “Skylar Diggins is someone I look up to because of her passion and aggression on the court,” she shares. “In college, I admire Hannah Hidalgo. As a freshman, she immediately made an impact on both sides of the court as a small guard, just like me. They both inspire me to play with the mentality that no one can stop me.” Taylor tells BTN Scouting.
Navigating The Recruitment Process: Highlights & Relationships
As one of the top recruits in her class, the recruitment process has been a thrilling experience for her. “It’s been amazing so far. I’ve loved building relationships with every coach that’s recruiting me and learning more about their schools and programs.” She highlights how receiving offers has been a motivating factor. “Knowing that coaches believe in me and the work I put in makes me want to keep getting better. I’m really enjoying the process, but when it’s time to make that final decision, I know it’ll be tough because I love all the schools recruiting me.” Taylor tells BTN Scouting.
Handling Pressure: Trusting the Process
With the high expectations that come with being a top recruit, managing pressure is key. Her strategy is simple: “I trust in all the work I put in during workouts. The more acknowledgment and offers I get, the more motivated I am to continue improving and being the best version of myself.” Taylor tells BTN Scouting.
What She’s Looking For In A College Coach & Program?
As she navigates the recruitment process, she has a clear vision of what she wants from a college coach and program. “I’m looking for a coach that I have a strong relationship with, someone who will hold me accountable and teach me to be a better player and person beyond basketball,” she says. “In a program, I want a school that believes in developing their players throughout their entire college career.” Taylor says.
Overtime Select
One of her standout experiences came at the Overtime Select camp. “It was absolutely amazing! Competing with so many talented players from all over the country pushed me to get better, both in games and practice. Off the court, I made lifelong friendships. Overtime Select was definitely one of my favorite experiences so far.” Taylor says.
